Cherry Pit Spitting Competition



Cherry Pit Spitting as described in Wikipedia is “the act of spitting , or ejecting, the pit (the seed) of a cherry from one's mouth with great speed so as to send the pit a great distance. Spitting cherry pits is an amateur sport; there are no professional leagues of cherry spitters known, though this may change if enough people begin participating in this sport.

A cherry pit, the pit of a cherry, is very small, about the size of a front tooth, and is very slippery when first removed from the cherry, making it easy to spit. According to the Guinness Book of Records, the record distance is 95 feet and 6.5 inches (29.12 m).

The rules are really quite simple – you pick out a cherry; eat the cherry; save the spit and your ready for competition. When its your turn to spit simply stand behind the line and spit your pit. The person who spits his or her pit the longest distance wins!

Prizes will be awarded for the longest distance, but other categories are “ the most creative pit spit, In some competitions, there are brackets from youth to oldies..

The competition began in 1974, when a Michigan cherry farmer, was looking for "something to do" with cherry pits. Growing from a neighborhood get-together to an international competition, the Pit Spit is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as an official competition.
